About this Opportunity

Companionship Volunteer Department: Volunteer Services Location: In-home, facilities, or virtual (varies by patient needs). Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator Status: Volunteer / Non-paid

Position Summary:The Companionship Volunteer provides emotional support and a comforting presence to hospice patients facing the end of life. This non-clinical role is essential in helping patients feel seen, heard, and cared for during their final chapter. Volunteers offer presence, conversation, quiet companionship, and light non-medical support based on the patient’s wishes and needs.

Key Responsibilities:Visit patients in their homes, assisted living, or nursing facilities. Offer presence: listen, talk, read, or simply sit quietly. Engage in comforting activities such as playing music, sharing stories, or looking through photos. Support the emotional and spiritual well-being of patients through non-judgmental presence. Report visit notes and patient updates to the Volunteer Coordinator. Respect patient confidentiality, dignity, and hospice values at all times.

Qualifications: Compassionate, dependable, and emotionally mature. Comfortable being present with those who are dying. Excellent listening and interpersonal skills. Able to work independently and follow hospice protocols. Complete required hospice volunteer training (provided). Background check and health screening may be required.
