About this Opportunity
A hotline advocate provides peer emotional support, safety-planning and crisis intervention support to survivors of domestic violence and their allies regarding current or recent domestic violence.
Previous experience is not required. Training is included and meets the California legal requirements to be certified as an advocate for domestic violence survivors (California Evidence Code Section 1037). Completion of the advocacy certification training opens up additional opportunities including legal advocacy in court, teen group facilitation, the housing program and community/prevention education.

Requirements
- Be 18 years or older
- Be a resident of California
- Have not received domestic violence services as a participant with Walnut Avenue for a minimum of two years
- Pass a fingerprinting/criminal background check (cost is $45 but you may request a waiver)
- Completion of the 40+ hour advocacy certification training (virtual)
Schedule and Time Commitment
- This is a Virtual Volunteer Opportunity where you will volunteer from home.
- You must be able to come to the office in-person once a month (if a disability prevents you from coming in please contact the coordinator)
- Commitment to 12-months of service
- One weekly shift on the 24-hour hotline (remote)
- One monthly supervisory meeting (virtual)
