About this Opportunity
Help a K-4 student in your community learn to read!
Reading Partners has been pairing volunteer tutors with elementary students for 25 years to ensure that all kids have the foundational reading skills and confidence they need to be able to read at grade level by fourth grade.
We believe that literacy is the foundation of all learning. With strong literacy skills, students can unlock their potential and thrive in school and in life. For a little over an hour per week, you can make a huge difference in the life of young readers.
Here’s what that looks like: one-on-one tutoring, once a week, with a structured curriculum. No experience is necessary, and we offer in-person and online options with flexible tutoring times and on-site or live support for volunteers!
Before you take the next step to sign up, please review the following tutoring requirements:
- All tutors must reside within Maryland.
- Tutoring runs during the school year from late September to May/June.
- During the school year, tutoring takes place Mondays-Thursdays during the school day, typically from 8 AM-5 PM PT. Please make sure you have availability within this timeframe.
- Tutors commit to a little over an hour per week (same day/time each week) for a minimum of one semester, although the full school year is preferred. Consistent attendance is required.
- Tutors work one-on-one with a student in kindergarten through fourth grade.
If you’re interested in tutoring in-person, we operate in these neighborhoods:
- Dolfield, Lucille Park, Cross Country, Fallstaff, East Baltimore Midway, Barclay, Station North, Fort Worthington, Lauraville, Morgan Park, Hamilton Hills, Rosemont East, Hamilton, Glenham-Belford, Waltherson, Forest Park, Garwyn Oaks, Ashburton, O'Donnell Heights, Graceland Park, Greektown, Bayview, Lakeland, Cherry Hill, West Baltimore, Mt. Winans, Frankford, Sandtown-Winchester, Westport, Patterson Place, McElderry Park, North Harford Road, Overlea, Woodring, Taylor Heights
