About this Opportunity

Optage Hospice provides compassionate care that focuses on comfort, quality, and support for individuals with terminal illness, their families, and caregivers. We are currently seeking visitors, both social and pet, at bth of our Bloomington campuses.

What does it mean to be a Companion Volunteer? It could mean a lot of things depending on the patient that the volunteer is matched with. You will work one -on-one with the patient, and sometimes their family, Some examples of what volunteers have done in the past include: reading novels and/or the Bible to patients; writing letters; painting nails or doing hair; household tasks; wheelchair walks; accompanying patient to activities, events, or Chapel so that they are able to participate, if desired; socializing; playing games; reviewing pictures or videos; music therapy; massage therapy.

What does it mean to be a Pet Visitor? Pet visitors don't need to be certified therapy or comfort animals but need to be obedient and calm.

Hospice volunteers make a minimum commitment of 4 hours per month with flexible scheduling available. Volunteer is assigned between 1-4 patients depending on the individual volunteer's needs and the needs of our current patients.

Your talents, skills, and interests can help determine what you do!

Volunteers become certified through Optage Hospice's training program. Optage Hospice specializes in providing services to those with dementia; volunteers should be comfortable in working with those with dementia - training and continuing support will be provided.
