About this Opportunity

The High School Leadership Program at East High School and Emerson Elementary School is a great option for high school students who aspire to be mentors and are passionate about positively impacting young lives. Friday's during the school year, 12:00PM to 1:00 PM at Emerson Elementary School(2421 E Johnson St, Madison, WI 53704)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

After enrolling in our HSLP Mentoring Program, Bigs and Littles are thoughtfully matched based on interests and preferences (gender, race, age, etc.) Once the Match is approved by Big, Little, and parent/caregiver, they can start meeting!


  • Minimum of 1 year commitment
  • BBBS provides all activities and conversation starters to help Matches get to know each other during their sessions
  • Time can be spent reading, playing board games, doing crafts, or catching up on homework.
  • High school students will receive class credit for completing the program
  • East High School students are mentored by professional BBBS staff, who will guide them in individual conversations about their future aspirations.

BBBS conducts regular check-in conversations and observations with Bigs and Littles to ensure the relationship is healthy, safe, and thriving.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BIGS

  • Currently enrolled student at East High School
  • Must live in Dane County
  • Complete online application, interview, and references
  • Pass a background check (with parent permission)
  • Big must connect with Match Support Specialist as required

REQUIREMENTS FOR LITTLES

  • Student at Emerson Elementary School
  • Must live in Dane County
  • Parent or caregiver must complete the online application for child
  • Committed to meeting with mentor 1 time per week
  • Parent and child must connect with Match Support Specialist as required
