About this Opportunity
Make a difference during our Youth Engaged In Service (YES) program this summer. YES is a chance for students, grades 6 through 12, to learn about the issues facing their community and to do something about it. Participants will engage with non-profits, city agencies, and people from all walks of life as they earn service hours and explore career paths. Half-day programs are free for Alexandria city residents.
- July 22 – A Local Housing Nonprofit: Students will participate in a meaningful service project at a housing nonprofit, supporting their mission to lift families out of homelessness and instability.
- July 23 – Enjoy a Kayaking Clean Up! ***You MUST complete registration on an external website.*** A $10 donation is required for reservation.
- July 24 –Jones Point Park: Students will contribute to the care and preservation of Jones Point Park, a historic waterfront space in Alexandria.
- August 5 – For Middle School Students Only: Students will perform projects at 2 different nonprofits in Alexandria, involving food insecurity and human services.
- August 6 – Environmental Day: We plan to do an environmental awareness project with Transportation & Environmental Services and a park clean-up. Middle and high school students welcome.
- August 7 – For High School Students Only: Students will perform projects at 2 different nonprofits in Alexandria, involving food insecurity and a workshop on fostering healthy relationships.
