Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South serves in twenty-five (25) counties across three (3) states; Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. While living up to the mission of Junior Achievement, we live by the phrase "Every Child, World Ready."

Mission Statement

JA Programs:

Capstone:

(5th and 6th Grade)

JA BizTowncombines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor.

JA Finance Parkis Junior Achievement's capstone program for personal financing planning and career exploration; at the culmination of this teacher-led program, students visit JA Finance Park, a realistic on-site or virtual community, to put into practice what they've learned by developing and committing to a personal budget. JA Business Communications is a one-semester teacher-led course that equips high school students to focus on communication skills necessary to succeed in business.

Site-Based:

(K - 5th Grade)

JA Our Neighborsis a series of culturally responsive videos designed to help contextualize concepts introduced in JA's elementary school programs.

JA in a Dayis a one-day interactive presentation in partnership with local elementary schools and community volunteers who utilize our economic-based curriculum to demonstrate the relevance between what students are learning in school and the real world.

(8th Grade)

JA Inspireis much more than a career fair, it brings together the business community and local schools and is designed to help launch middle school students into their futures.

(High School)

JA Business Communications, part of the JA High School Experience courses, is a one-semester, teacher-led course in which high school students focus on communication skills necessary to succeed in business, including communicating up, down, and across organizations; talking about job performance; and writing in a business setting. Volunteers engage with students through a variety of activities that may include subject-matter guest speaking, coaching, or advising for case study and project coursework.

JA Economicsis a part of the JA High School Experience courses, is a one-semester course that connects high school students to the economic principles that influence their daily life as well as their future. Through a variety of experiential activities presented by the teacher and volunteer, students better understand the relationship between what they learn in school, their future career, and their successful participation in today's global economy. Volunteers engage with students through a variety of activities that may include subject-matter guest speaking coaching or advising for case study and project coursework.

The course addresses each of the economics standards identified by the Council for Economic Education as being essential to complete a high school economics course.

JA Financial Capability 1is a one-semester teacher-led course in which high school students examine financial capabilities from a business perspective, focusing on banking, economics, business planning and risk management.

JA Financial Capability 2is a one-semester teacher-led course in which high school students examine financial capabilities from a business perspective, focusing on employee benefits, ethics, business investment, and international business operations.

JA Financial Literacyis a one-semester teacher-led course that equips high school students with foundational personal finance skills.

JA Introduction to Business and Technology 1is a one-semester teacher-led course that introduces high school students to the basic skills necessary to succeed in business; themes include teamwork, innovation, decision making, and ethics.

JA Introduction to Business and Technology 2is a one-semester teacher-led course that introduces high school students ot the basic skills necessary to succeed in business; themes include personal skills like innovation, management functions, and accounting.

JA Marketing Principles 1is a one-semester teacher-led course that introduces high school students to marketing and some basic marketing techniques.

JA Marketing Principles 2is a one-semester teacher-led course, high school students learn about marketing in the world around them and potential careers in the field.

JA Launch Lessonis a point-of-entry program delivered by community entrepreneurs; students gain firsthand knowledge about starting a business and the entrepreneurial journey. This occurs during the entrepreneurial month of November ONLY.

JA Entrepreneurial Mindsetis a one-semester teacher-led course that introduces high school students to the basics of starting a business, including developing entrepreneurial abilities, identifying a business opportunity, creating a business plan, economics, and the stages of business growth.

In JA Career Speaker Series, a volunteer guest speaker visits the classroom and shares information about his or her career, work, and education experience. The speaker may bring props, samples of his or her work, or other visuals to help engage students.
