Greater Stonegate Village, Incorporated

Greater Stonegate Village was founded in 2016, with the mission to assist neighbors, mostly seniors, who want to remain in their homes and stay engaged in their neighborhood. We seek to assist members to age with peace of mind, meaning, and friends. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, we believe that it takes a village to connect, support, and inspire seniors as they age. We believe that people are healthier and happier when they are connected to others in the community. When our members face challenges, they do not need to face them alone. We seek to create a caring, respectful, and positive community that is characterized by compassion, kindness, and generosity.

The ultimate goal of Greater Stonegate Village is to provide the necessary support and services that will allow aging individuals to remain safely in their homes as they age. Services will include transportation services, adult education classes, telephone check-ins, absent resident check-ins, social visits, and simple handyman services. We have trained several volunteers to provide these services, but we anticipate needing additional assistance for some services needed by seniors (e.g., shoveling snow, help with technical support, etc.).

Student volunteers with GSV will provide technology tutoring for seniors on using the features of devices such as computers, cell phones, smart TVs, etc. They will tutor seniors on how to set up and use such social media platforms as Facebook, Facetime, twitter,messenger, Instagram, etc. Students can design flyers for GSV events, and set up virtual games for groups of seniors (Bingo, Mahjong, sudoku, etc.).
