About

Girl Scouts is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls, all girls, everywhere. In an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, such as leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois serves nearly 20,000 girls ages 5-17, in 31 counties in Iowa and 7 counties in Illinois. | On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low held the first Girl Scout meeting in the U.S. The organization grew from there and became incorporated in Washington, D.C., June 10, 1915, and chartered by the United States Congress, March 16, 1950. Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois council is one of a global family of 8.5 million girls and adults in 144 countries--and one of more than 100 councils that make up Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
